Tex Mex Motors’ Rob ‘Rabbit’ Pitts Passes Away at 45

Rob “Rabbit” Pitts, who starred in Netflix’s auto renovation reality series Tex Mex Motors, has passed away at the age of 45.

Pitts, who died on Sunday, left a heartfelt message for his fans in a video titled “This Is Goodbye (RIP 7/27/79 – 8/25/24).” His videographer, Jeff, confirmed the sad news, revealing that Pitts had been living with stomach cancer and died while under hospice care. “He will be missed and we will never forget him!” the videographer wrote.

Pitts explained in the video that he began feeling “off” after attending the SEMA car show in Las Vegas last year, where he started losing weight. Preparing to film Season 2 of Tex Mex Motors for Netflix, he was initially not too concerned about his weight loss.

However, Pitts began losing his appetite and experienced several “acid reflux-like symptoms.” After seeking treatment at urgent care, he still felt unwell. It wasn’t until his castmate Jamie took him to the emergency room that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in late March.

“Since then I have been getting treatments at home and it’s been rough,” Pitts said. “More bad days than good, but hanging in there. I have a lot to live for and life has been going my way. Don’t be sad for me… I accomplished my dream of buying my own store, finishing Season 2 of [Tex Mex Motors] and marrying the love of my life.”

Pitts, along with Marcos “Scooter” Carrera, co-created and starred in Netflix’s Tex Mex Motors which debuted in June 2023. The series followed Pitts and Scooter as they scouted vintage cars in Mexico and brought them back to their shop in El Paso, Texas, for comprehensive transformations and restorations. The show had begun production on its second season earlier this year.

Carrera confirmed the sad news on Instagram, writing, “It’s with a heavy heart that I write about the passing of my cast member & friend ROB ‘RABBIT’ PITTS. Rest In Peace Brother, I’m going to really miss you!!!❤️🙏🏻💔”

In his final message, Pitts urged his fans to “ask questions and get answers” if they felt that something was wrong with their bodies.
