Texas’ Unexpected Cameos in South Park Episodes Revealed

Even though South Park is mainly set in Colorado, Texas makes a lot of surprise appearances throughout the show’s history. From brief cameos to music being used, to entire episodes centered around Texas, here are many times where Texas was featured in the hit show, South Park.

In Season 2’s Episode 8, “Summer Sucks“, both Ned and Jimbo try to smuggle fireworks from Mexico for the Fourth of July. They both get busted at the Border and are sent to a Texas prison. No specific city is mentioned, leaving it up to the audience to imagine where in Texas this happened. Thankfully, if they wanted to get fireworks in Texas today, it is legal.

One of the most infamous moments in U.S. history, the 1993 Waco Siege on the Branch Davidians compound, was referenced in Season 3, Episode 8, “Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub“. ATF agents respond to a party, confusing it for a cult, making a clear reference to the Waco Siege event.

Season 8, Episode 10, “Pre-School“, mentioned an extreme prank called the “Texas Chili Bowl,” which involves tabasco sauce, a phone, and the butt. The authenticity of this prank is questionable and it’s probably best left unverified!

In Season 11, Episode 7, “Night of the Living Homeless”, the town of South Park is overrun by homeless people. The town of San Antonio is mentioned as suggesting the town of Evergreen in Colorado was a perfect place for the homeless, causing them to migrate to South Park. Interestingly, the city of San Antonio does face a significant homeless problem today.

Season 15, Episode 9, “The Last of the Meheecans“, focuses on Butters, who is sent back to Mexico and becomes a leader named “Mantequilla”. He helps Mexicans return to Mexico from the United States, and the Texas Border Patrol tries to stop them from leaving while welcoming new arrivals, except for Cartman.

In Season 18, Episode 1, “Go Fund Yourself“, the show pokes fun at the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones. In the episode, the Dallas Cowboys completely obliterate Dan Snyder on the field, and Jerry Jones even makes a cameo appearance.

The show also features mentions of Texas musicians. Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” was heard in the episode, “Kenny Dies“, Kelly Clarkson’s “I Forgive You” was used in the special “Post Covid: The Return of Covid,” ZZ Top’s “La Grange” was featured in the episode, “Poor and Stupid“, and there is a parody of Stevie Ray Vaughan named Steamy Ray Vaughan.

Additionally, one of the creators of South Park is actually from Texas. This might be a fun fact not many are aware of and adds a personal connection to the show’s recurring references to Texas.
