‘The Accident’ and ‘The Union’ Top TV and Film Charts August 23-29

“The Accident” and “The Union” emerged as the most-watched streaming originals in the United States for the week of Aug. 23-29, according to data from Luminate.

“The Accident” topped TV titles with an impressive 782 million minutes viewed during its first full week. Meanwhile, “The Union” achieved the highest overall streaming viewership, amassing 813.5 million minutes. This marked its second full week of availability on the chart, previously hitting No. 1 with 1.7 billion minutes in the prior week.

The second position on the TV chart went to “Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War” with 500.2 million minutes watched in its first week. “American Murder: Laci Peterson” dropped to third place with 446.9 million minutes watched, down from its billion-minute debut the previous week.

Other repeat titles occupied the next three spots: “Love Is Blind: UK” ranked fourth with 328.5 million minutes, “Emily in Paris” Season 4 held fifth with 305 million minutes, and “Bad Monkey” was sixth with 279.3 million minutes.

“Untold: The Murder of Air McNair” debuted at No. 7, garnering 252.9 million minutes viewed in its first week. This was followed by “Bel-Air” Season 3 at eighth place with 235.7 million minutes, “Love Island USA” Season 6 at ninth with 210.5 million, and “Reasonable Doubt” rounding up the top ten with 190.7 million minutes.

Interestingly, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” despite its large fanbase, did not make the chart. It returned to Amazon Prime Video for its second season on the last day of this viewing window. With three new episodes, it ranked as the 37th-most-watched streaming original for the week. This could be attributed to it competing against titles that had a full week of viewership accumulation. For instance, “The Boys” Season 4 garnered 79.9 million minutes on its first day, compared to “Rings of Power’s” 63.2 million minutes with a slightly longer runtime. A clearer view will emerge from data of its opening weekend and subsequent full week.

On the film chart, “The Killer” made a notable debut, landing second with 410.8 million minutes on Peacock. “Incoming” secured the third spot with 339 million minutes in its first week on Netflix, while “The Supremes at Earl’s All You Can Eat” took fifth place with 139.2 million minutes viewed on Hulu.

“Jackpot!” occupied fourth place in its second week on the chart, pulling in 192.5 million minutes. The remaining titles on the chart had under 100 million minutes viewed, including “The Instigators,” “Robbin,” “Find Me Falling,” “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” and “A Family Affair.”
