The Acolyte Unveils Major Twist Just Before Season Finale

The penultimate episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte’s first season premiered on Disney+ Tuesday night, bringing clarity to many of the unanswered questions regarding the show’s flashback timeline. The third episode was set entirely in the past, detailing the night on Brendok when the Jedi hunted Osha, Mae, and their entire coven, resulting in their tragic demise. This week’s episode revisited those events with a new perspective, providing a fuller picture and introducing a major twist just in time for the Season 1 finale.

Back in the third episode, a critical scene showcased Osha and Mae on opposite sides of a collapsing bridge, with Sol on a nearby platform attempting to save them. Mae’s section fell, but Sol managed to secure Osha, although Mae did ultimately survive. The new episode, however, shed a different light on this event.

It was revealed that Sol was actually using his Force powers to try and save both twins by holding up each side of the bridge simultaneously. However, he realized he couldn’t maintain this effort indefinitely, risking the lives of both girls. Hence, Sol made a heart-wrenching choice: he let Mae fall, assuming she would die, to ensure Osha’s safety.

Sol had noticed the contrasting attitudes between the twins concerning the Jedi. Osha aspired to become a Jedi, whereas Mae rejected them. Sol chose to save the sister who, in his view, wanted to explore her powers the “right way.”

The twist is even more impactful, considering that Osha, Sol’s former Padawan, is no longer the sister accompanying him. Mae replaced Osha on the journey back to Coruscant, meaning Mae is discovering the truth about Sol’s decision to let her die. Sol is aware he’s talking to Mae, so his honesty might end up winning her over by the season’s end.

Set during The High Republic era, Star Wars: The Acolyte focuses on an investigation into a series of mysterious crimes. This mission pits a Jedi master against his former apprentice in a race to uncover the truth. As their journey progresses, they encounter increasingly dark elements beyond their wildest imaginations.

The series features Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered on Disney+ on June 4th.
