The Boys Adds Disclaimer to Season 4 Finale After Trump Assassination Attempt

The Boys

The popular series The Boys has added a disclaimer to the start of its season four finale following an attempted assassination of former US president, Donald Trump.

Amazon’s Prime Video series released the penultimate episode of the gory show on Thursday (18 July). The episode was originally titled “Assassination Run” but has now been changed to “Season 4 Finale” due to the recent events.

On Saturday (13 July), 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to assassinate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Although Trump escaped with a bullet scraping his ear, former fire chief Corey Comperatore died protecting his family.

In the final episode of The Boys, the characters, led by Jack Quaid’s Hughie, attempt to prevent an assassination attempt on President-Elect Robert Singer (Jim Beaver), orchestrated by the villainous superhero Homelander (Antony Starr).

The episode now carries a disclaimer which reads: “Viewer discretion advised. This episode contains scenes of fictional political violence. Any similarities to recent events are completely coincidental and unintentional. Prime Video, Amazon, MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Television and the producers of The Boys oppose, in the strongest terms, real-world violence of any kind.”

Interestingly, Channel 4 pulled a scheduled repeat of The Simpsons following the attempted assassination. An episode titled “Lisa the Iconoclast” was to air at 1 pm on Sunday (14 July), a day after the attack. It was replaced by another episode from a later season.

Additionally, Daily Show host Jon Stewart canceled plans to broadcast the show from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the Republican National Convention was taking place, because of the incident. Stewart expressed relief at avoiding a catastrophe but acknowledged the tragedy, paying tribute to Comperatore.

Actor Tim Robbins addressed conspiracy theories comparing the incident to his film Bob Roberts. Robbins directed and starred in the 1992 political drama, which follows a conservative politician staging a failed assassination attempt to boost his public support in a Pennsylvania Senate race.

In a post on X/Twitter, Robbins clarified, “To anyone drawing a parallel between my film Bob Roberts and the attempted assassination of Trump, let’s be clear. What happened yesterday was a real attempt on a presidential candidate’s life.”
