The Boys to Conclude with Season 5: Why Season 6 Won’t Happen

In May 2024, showrunner Eric Kripke hinted that The Boys could go on for years. However, this turns out to be a diversion. The end of the series was always imminent. Just before the premiere of The Boys season 4, two essential pieces of news were dropped.

The first announcement confirmed the certainty of a fifth season. The second, a revelation by the series creator himself, was that five seasons were always the intended run. According to Kripke, the story wouldn’t extend beyond that. He shared his thoughts on social media:

“The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!…Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in TWO DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

This unexpected news came just 48 hours before the premiere of season 4, and right after the show’s early renewal for its fifth season. So far, Amazon hasn’t released an official statement confirming season 5 as the final season, but it seems highly likely. This means The Boys season 5 will wrap up the series, with no season 6 in sight.

Many fans might be puzzled, thinking, “Wait a minute, didn’t you say the show could go on forever?” Well, consider it a makeshift April Fool’s joke. According to TVLine, Kripke once mentioned, “The Boys could be the best job I’ll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order.”

He certainly has a point! Kripke’s vision always included an ending, with a five-season arc mapped out from the beginning. While it’s sad to see the popular show nearing its end, fans can hopefully expect a satisfying conclusion. After all, extending a series longer than it should can sometimes dilute its essence, so ending on a high note might be the best course.

Season 4 of The Boys premiered on June 13, 2024, with the release of the first three episodes. New episodes are available weekly. The season begins with the world “on the brink,” as per the official synopsis. Expect plenty of gritty, harsh dialogue and intense action scenes. Both season 4 and the upcoming season 5 promise to be thrilling rides, filled with the characteristic edge-of-your-seat moments.
