The film promises a bone-chilling narrative of survival against dark forces. Set in the 1950s, the storyline follows rookie BPRD agent Bobbie Jo Song who finds herself in a perilous situation. Tasked with delivering a spider to the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, she must join forces with Hellboy to face the malevolent Crooked Man. This demon has returned to Earth to collect souls for the devil, making their mission a race against time and evil.

Directed by Brian Taylor—known for 2006’s Crank, 2009’s Crank: High Voltage, Gamer, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance—this film marks a return to the director’s seat for Taylor after his work on 2017’s Mom and Dad and Syfy’s Happy! series. His unique vision for Hellboy swings towards true horror, a shift long desired by fans and even the character’s creator, Mike Mignola.

“His intention is to make a horror movie, so that’ll be nice. That’ll be interesting,” Mignola said about Taylor and co-writer Chris Golden while speaking to Variety. “It’s the first Hellboy script that I read and I went, ‘Oh, it’s a horror movie,’ which is what I wanted. Taylor does not have a reputation as a horror movie director. But, so far, we’ve had two horror movie directors make Hellboy movies and we’ve never gotten a horror movie.”

Jack Kesy leads a cast that includes Adeline Rudolph as Bobbie Jo Song, Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel, and Leah McNamara. The ensemble is rounded out by Joseph Marcell, Hannah Margetson, and Martin Bassindale.

Fans of the Hellboy series and newcomers alike can expect a thrilling blend of horror and action when Hellboy: The Crooked Man releases in 2024 under the Ketchup Entertainment banner. The new direction aims to deliver a genuinely terrifying experience while staying true to the essence of the beloved franchise. The trailer has already generated significant excitement, promising a fresh take on the Hellboy saga that honors its roots in horror and folklore.

The anticipation for Hellboy: The Crooked Man builds as its release date approaches. With a new lead, a committed creative team, and a return to the horror elements that fans have longed for, this reboot intends to reinvigorate the series and carve out a new path for Hellboy.
