The Crow, Blink Twice Opens in Previews

As August comes to a close, cinema enthusiasts have two new films to look forward to, both hitting theaters. Lionsgate’s reboot of “The Crow” and Amazon MGM’s thriller “Blink Twice” are now in theaters. However, the season of summer box office hits is winding down.

“The Crow,” starring Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs, earned $650,000 in preview showings. On the other hand, “Blink Twice,” directed by Zoe Kravitz and featuring Channing Tatum, managed to accumulate $820,000 in previews.

Despite their initial showing, neither film is expected to break into this weekend’s top three box office performers. The trio of holdover hits, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Alien: Romulus,” and “It Ends With Us,” is anticipated to retain their strong presence and overshadow the newcomers.

Fede Alvarez’s “Alien: Romulus” recently outpaced the R-rated Marvel blockbuster and is projected to gross between $16 and $19 million in its second week. “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is expected to reassert itself with a projected earning of $16 to $18 million in its fifth week. Meanwhile, “It Ends With Us,” featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, is set to earn around $10 to $12 million in its third week.

“Blink Twice” is aiming to gather $7 to $8 million from 3,000 theaters. With Tatum portraying a wealthy tech mogul inviting women to his private island, the story quickly turns dark. Although distributed internationally by Warner Bros. and budgeted at $20 million, the film is in a comfortable position despite this modest debut.

“The Crow” aims for a similar range of $6 to $9 million from 2,500 venues. Lionsgate’s acquisition of the reboot, a cult classic originally starring Brandon Lee, for $10 million means a single-digit opening isn’t overly concerning. The film features Skarsgard as Eric Draven, the Crow, who seeks vengeance after being resurrected post-murder.
