The Crow Dubbed ‘Terrible and Dire’ – Worse Than Madame Web

The long-anticipated reboot of The Crow has premiered to disappointing reactions, with many viewers labeling it the worst film of 2024.

Released in cinemas this past Friday without prior screenings for critics, The Crow stars Bill Skarsgård as a troubled young man who becomes a supernatural vigilante following the murder of his girlfriend, played by musician FKA Twigs.

This film is notable as the first installment in the Crow franchise to receive a theatrical release since 1996’s The Crow: City of Angels. However, reactions suggest that it might have been wiser to opt for a streaming release instead of a full cinema debut.

“Just watched The Crow,” tweeted one viewer. “What a mess of a film … uninspired, directionless, and worst of all, boring.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Gave The Crow a chance and I think I just possibly have seen the worst movie I have ever watched … absolutely terrible and dire 1/10.”

Many echoed similar sentiments, claiming the film has comfortably topped their lists of worst movies of the year.

“Move over Borderlands, Madame Web, and Night SwimThe Crow has crashed hard into the running for worst movie of 2024 so far,” one tweet declared. “Talk about a remake and adaptation that does everything wrong, including casting two leads with zero chemistry.”

Another social media user remarked, “Madame Web might not be the worst comic book movie of the year. The Crow might be now.”

The sentiment was echoed once more: “The Crow remake is so bad that the theatre was audibly upset every five minutes as it transpired,” tweeted a viewer. “It makes Madame Web look like high art.”

Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, was released in February to dismal reviews and poor box office performance. The Independent’s film critic Clarisse Loughrey described it as seemingly “embarrassed by its own existence.”

The Crow is projected to open with approximately $8 million at the US box office this weekend, further dimming the prospects for a franchise that has struggled to recapture the cult success of its original film.

The first Crow film, released in 1994, featured Brandon Lee in the lead role. Tragically, Lee was killed in an on-set accident when a loaded gun was mistakenly used during filming.

The Crow: City of Angels followed in 1996, with Vincent Perez starring. Eric Mabius and Edward Furlong played the lead roles in subsequent straight-to-video sequels. The reboot has seen many actors linked to the role over its lengthy development period, including Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans, James McAvoy, and Jason Momoa.
