‘The Crow’ Star Sofia Shinas Understands Why Fans Dislike the Remake

The remake of “The Crow” hits theaters this weekend, but it’s already facing significant backlash from critics. The negative reviews have upset some fans and creators of the original film, which starred Brandon Lee.

Brandon Lee, the son of legendary martial artist Bruce Lee, was tragically killed in an accident on the set of the 1994 film. This incident has similarities to the more recent “Rust” tragedy involving Alec Baldwin. For years, fans have argued that a remake of “The Crow” could tarnish Brandon’s legacy.

Sofia Shinas, who played Lee’s love interest Shelly in the original movie, expressed her disappointment with the new remake to TMZ. She understands why it might flop after being panned by critics and shares the sentiment that it shouldn’t have been made.

Shinas stated, “People love Brandon in the original film … it’s hard to imagine how his family and fiancée must be feeling knowing their loved one gave his life making this film, and yet, years later, someone else is trying to eclipse that role.”

She clarified that her criticism isn’t directed at the remake’s stars, Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs, but rather at the decision to remake what she calls a “flawless” original film.

While there were a few direct-to-VHS sequels produced in the ’90s, there has never been a straight-up remake of the Lee film until now.

Sofia Shinas isn’t the only original cast member who opposes the new project. Rochelle Davis, another actress from the original “The Crow,” has also voiced her opposition to a remake.

In the end, it will be up to moviegoers to decide whether this new take on “The Crow” was a good idea.
