The Forgotten Drunken Wimbledon Rumor Involving Kate Middleton

In the year 2022, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios made headlines during his finals match against Novak Djokovic. Known for his outspoken nature, Kyrgios complained mid-match about a disruptive, allegedly drunk woman seated in the front row. In a widely shared video on X, formerly known as Twitter, Kyrgios can be seen heatedly urging the umpire to eject the unidentified fan. Frustrated, he questioned her continued presence, exclaiming, “She’s drunk out of her mind!”

When the umpire expressed uncertainty about which spectator Kyrgios was referring to, the player distinctly described the woman as wearing a dress with “dots” and looking like she’d “had about 700 drinks, bro!”

According to the Daily Mail, this incident sparked a bizarre conspiracy theory online. Some speculated that the loud spectator was Kate Middleton, the then-Duchess of Cambridge, who had attended the event in a polka dot dress. The theory gained traction, partly because Kyrgios did not specifically name the woman, leading to the assumption that it could be a prominent figure like Middleton.

However, it was later confirmed that the disruptive spectator was actually Polish lawyer Ania Palus. Despite reports suggesting that Kate was the sole individual wearing polka dots that day, Palus’s similar dress caused the confusion. Palus clarified that she was not intoxicated. If indeed the Duchess had caused any disturbance at Wimbledon, it would undoubtedly have become major news.

After losing the match, Kyrgios faced some skepticism on social media. One user commented on X, “I doubt Kate could do anything to hurt his game. Excuses excuses […] for not keeping his head in the game.”
