This year, however, Harry and Meghan embarked on tours of two countries, Nigeria and Colombia, bearing a striking resemblance to royal tours. Some experts suggest that the couple might have reasons beyond philanthropy for these trips.

Harry and Meghan sought a more private life when they stepped down from their working royal roles four years ago. They felt constantly hounded by the media, especially Meghan. However, since stepping down, they have made money from various ventures that included telling their story and, at times, criticizing the royal family. Now, one expert believes these tours offer Harry and Meghan a chance to change their public persona. The couple recently returned from a tour of Colombia.

“Perhaps, then, these tours offer Harry and Meghan another initiative to highlight: themselves,” royal expert Emily Andrews said, according to Express. “With Harry celebrating his 40th birthday next month and ongoing courtroom battles in the UK, it does feel like a pivotal time for the Sussexes in their attempts to ‘look forward.’”

Harry and Meghan’s royal tour showed more candid behaviors that aren’t captured when they’re at home in Montecito. For instance, video footage surfaced of the two salsa dancing, which showcased a more lighthearted side of them that the public rarely sees.

Harry and Meghan need public approval because so much of their immediate future relies on it. Meghan is set to launch a lifestyle brand called American Riviera Orchard and also has a deal with Netflix to produce her own cooking show. Both ventures require public buy-in to be successful. Without public support, these business efforts may falter.

Harry and Meghan have not reconciled with the royal family. Although Harry does communicate with his father, King Charles, their relationship isn’t particularly strong. Moreover, Harry and Meghan do not speak with Prince William and Kate Middleton, which could negatively impact their public image and long-term ventures, especially given that the Prince and Princess of Wales are highly popular globally.
