‘The Irrational’ Season 2 Premiere Date Delayed

NBC’s hit drama “The Irrational” will be returning a week later than initially scheduled. The premiere of Season 2, originally set for October 1, has been shifted to October 8. This change is due to the vice presidential debate between Governor Tim Walz and Senator J.D. Vance on CBS News. Although it’s a slight delay, it’s just one week off, which isn’t too bad. The Season 2 premiere will air at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, following “The Voice.”

Season 2 of “The Irrational” has been highly anticipated. Based on the life of Dan Ariely and his 2008 non-fiction book “Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions,” the series first premiered on NBC in September 2023 and quickly became a hit. Within just two months, the network renewed it for a second season and even added an extra episode to its first season, bringing the total to 11 episodes. The Season 2 finale aired in February, so waiting another week won’t be too agonizing for fans.

Jesse L. Martin stars as Alec Mercer, a world-renowned professor of behavioral psychology specializing in human irrationality. He frequently teams up with the police and FBI to assist with special cases. “The Irrational” was created by Arika Mittman and stars Maahra Hill, Travina Springer, Molly Kunz, and Arash DeMaxi. Martin also serves as a producer, with Mittman, Mark Goffman, and Samuel Baum as executive producers.

“The Irrational” isn’t the only series affected by the VP debate. The second season of Fox’s “Accused” is now set to premiere on October 8 at 8 p.m. ET. Additionally, the second episode of Fox’s new crime series “Murder in a Small Town,” which premieres on September 24, will air an hour earlier at 8 p.m. ET, immediately before the debate. Fox likely did not want to interrupt the new show’s run after its debut episode, opting instead to air the second episode earlier and thereby push “Accused” back by a week.

Though it may be disappointing that “The Irrational” is delayed, the change was expected due to the debate. At the very least, the postponement is only by one week, making the wait more bearable. Fans should mark their calendars for the Season 2 premiere of “The Irrational,” now airing on Tuesday, October 8 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC’s 2024 fall schedule. They won’t want to miss what unfolds with Alec and the rest of the cast.
