The Journey to Friendship: Christina Hall & Tarek El Moussa’s Post-Divorce Story

Can exes become friends again? It’s not impossible, even after messy, public divorces. Christina Hall and Tarek El Moussa of HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” are a couple who managed to overcome their past tensions and rebuild a friendship.

The pair married in 2009 and debuted on HGTV in 2013. They had two children together, Taylor and Brayden. However, by December 2016, they announced their separation. One major reason for their split was the immense stress from multiple sources. After about eight months of separation, they revealed the news, with El Moussa telling People about a misunderstanding that led to police involvement. “There was no violence, and no charges were filed,” he clarified.

The incident in question happened in May 2016 when El Moussa took a gun in his backpack and left their house, heading to a walking trail. Christina called the police, fearing he might be suicidal. Fortunately, there were no serious repercussions. El Moussa was found and handed over his guns to the police for 30 days. Despite finalizing their divorce in 2018, they kept working together, which was sometimes fraught with tension.

El Moussa reportedly yelled on set

There were several occasions on the “Flip or Flop” set where Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall clashed. Insiders told TMZ that instances of El Moussa yelling at Hall were not uncommon. One notable argument saw him disparaging Hall by comparing her unfavorably to his fiancée at the time, Heather Rae Young. He reportedly called Hall a “washed-up loser” and took satisfaction in her failures. He also yelled phrases like “Look at me, look at me. It’s called winning” and “The world knows you’re crazy!”

An inside source claimed El Moussa was upset with Hall for her use of a psychedelic, which raised concerns about their children’s well-being. Hall had previously mentioned that smoking toad venom had reset her brain and alleviated years of anxiety in a mere 15 minutes.

Later, speaking to E!’s “Daily Pop,” El Moussa acknowledged the incident, stating, “As you can imagine, it can be stressful working with an ex, and we did have an incident.” He emphasized the importance of avoiding such conflicts for the sake of their children.

A children’s soccer game turned into a battlefield

Another tense episode occurred in May 2022 at their son Brayden’s soccer game. Christina Hall’s then-husband, Josh Hall, and El Moussa’s wife, Heather Rae Young, were also present. Young approached Christina, leading to a bickering match caught in photos by the Daily Mail. El Moussa then stepped in to pull Young away. Later, a confrontational moment between El Moussa and Josh ensued, with the soccer coach intervening to keep the peace.

Shortly after, a statement shared by People indicated that the families discussed a personal matter and resolved it. They emphasized their commitment to co-parenting as a team from then on.

Interestingly, by May 2024, El Moussa had set a paparazzi photo from that soccer game incident as his phone background while promoting a new show that involved both couples.

Their children are most important to El Moussa and Christina Hall

The realization that their children come first was a turning point for Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall. After the soccer game altercation, Brayden required emergency surgery. Christina addressed the matter on Instagram, tagging El Moussa, Young, and Josh Hall to highlight the importance of co-parenting. “In the end, all the other stuff is just ‘noise’; what matters is the kids,” Christina wrote.

In a May 2024 interview with Fox News, El Moussa reiterated that the kids come first. “Kids are number one. That’s it,” he said. He also provided a positive update on his relationship with Christina, noting, “We’re actually friends today. We’re getting along great.”

El Moussa, Young, Christina Hall, and Josh Hall collaborated on ‘The Flip Off’

In May 2024, HGTV announced that Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall would face off in a new show called “The Flip Off” scheduled for 2025. The premise saw the exes, joined by their new spouses, compete to see who could achieve the highest earnings from a house flip.

This new collaboration signaled significant progress in their relationship. However, things took an unexpected turn when Josh Hall filed for divorce from Christina during the filming in July 2024. Despite this hiccup, the show reportedly continued without Josh’s involvement.

El Moussa and Young are being supportive following the news of Christina’s divorce

Perhaps the biggest indication of a mended relationship between Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall came after the news of Christina’s divorce from Josh. El Moussa and Heather Rae Young expressed their support publicly. In a video shared by E! News, El Moussa was asked about the divorce’s impact on the show. He expressed confidence that Christina would get through it and emphasized their support for her.

El Moussa had kind words for his ex, stating, “I think life’s tough, I think s*** happens. And I think she’s gonna get through this. We’re here to support her.” They’ve certainly come a long way from their early separation days.
