‘The Room Next Door’ Teaser Unveils Julianne Moore-Tilda Swinton Drama

Aug. 20 (UPI) — Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled a teaser for their upcoming film, The Room Next Door.

The teaser trailer, released on Tuesday, stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton.

The Room Next Door is both written and directed by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, making it his first English-language feature. Almodóvar is renowned for his work on films such as Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, All About My Mother, Pain and Glory, and Parallel Mothers.

The Room Next Door draws its story from Sigrid Nunez’s novel What Are You Going Through. The plot revolves around Ingrid and Martha, portrayed by Moore and Swinton, respectively. These two characters were close friends during their early years working together at a magazine.

“Ingrid (Moore) went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha (Swinton) became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation,” reads the official synopsis.

The trailer hints at Swinton’s character battling an illness, adding depth to the narrative.

The Room Next Door is set to premiere in theaters on Dec. 20.
