‘The Seed Of The Sacred Fig’ Among 13 German Films Submitted For International Oscar

German Films has announced receiving 13 submissions for this year’s international Oscar race. Among the titles is Mohammad Rasoulof’s Cannes Competition film The Seed Of The Sacred Fig and RP Kahl’s The Investigation. The Seed of the Sacred Fig tells the story of Iman, a judge in Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, who faces mistrust and paranoia as political protests escalate nationwide. Presented in Cannes, Rasoulof’s film follows Iman’s journey amidst increasing tension, with the director having previously fled Iran after being handed an eight-year prison sentence for unauthorized filmmaking. The selection process for the German entry will occur on August 21 and 22 in Munich.

Gary Lineker’s Goalhanger Signs Development Exec

Gary Lineker’s podcast company, Goalhanger, has appointed a new Executive Producer – Development. Nicole Logan, previously with Reduced Listening, will spearhead the initiative to discover new talent, pilot projects, and bring them to fruition. Her past projects include Nailing It for Spotify, Arlo Park’s Dream Fuel and Gilles Peterson for 6Music, as well as The Sleeping Forecast for BBC Sounds. Goalhanger produces the Rest Is… series, including The Rest is Politics, The Rest is History, and The Rest is Football. The company is overseen by Lineker, Jack Davenport, and Tony Pastor. Additionally, Andy Neilson has joined the team as PR & Communications Manager.

San Sebastian Sets WIP Europa Titles

Four European feature films in the post-production phase have been selected to compete for San Sebastian’s WIP Europa Industry Award. The films include Memento Non Mori by Seyhmus Alten, In a Grove by Nino Akhvlediani, China Sea by Jurgis Matulevicius, and Blue Marks by Sarah Miro Fischer. The winner will receive support for post-production services and distribution in Spain.
