‘The Traitors’ U.K. Plans Celebrity Edition as BBC Confirms Season 4

“The Traitors” U.K. fans are in for a treat as the BBC has confirmed a fourth season of the hit show along with a celebrity edition.

The announcement, made at the Edinburgh TV Festival, comes just before the release of the show’s third season, which has already been filmed in the Scottish Highlands. However, the participants and broadcast dates for the nine-part celebrity special and the 12-episode Season 4 are yet to be revealed.

Claudia Winkleman will continue to host this U.K. version of the psychological game show, produced by Studio Lambert, part of All3Media.

“’The Traitors’ has well and truly established itself as an unmissable highlight of the year and the news of a fourth outing, alongside a brand new celebrity version coming to the BBC, will take the series to a whole new level,” said Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC’s head of entertainment. “It will once again be fascinating for our audiences to see who’ll outwit, outplay, and outlast. Let the mind games begin!”

Mike Cotton, creative director for unscripted at Studio Lambert and one of the executive producers on “The Traitors,” added, “We are thrilled to be inviting some celebrities into our castle to come and play the game. Seeing famous faces navigate the round table or don the infamous green cloaks will be unmissable TV, and what a double treat for the fans with [Season] 4 also confirmed too. There’s a whole lot of exciting treachery and deception yet to come from the Highlands… Claudia’s going to have to pack some extra knitwear.”

Additionally, a companion podcast titled “The Traitors: Uncloaked” will release 12 new episodes. The podcast, created by agency Listen, will be hosted by comedian Ed Gamble.

“The Traitors” originally hails from the Netherlands and was created by IDTV. All3Media handles global rights for both its format and tape sales.

During their Edinburgh panel, the BBC also announced a new sitcom with Dawn French titled “Can You Keep a Secret?” and a new two-part documentary titled “Signs for Living.” The documentary, produced by Rogan Productions, stars Rose Ayling-Ellis, who guides a group of older people through learning British Sign Language.

“Can You Keep a Secret?” features French as a militant granny who embarks on an insurance scam. The show is written and created by Simon Mayhew-Archer (“This Country”) and co-stars Mark Heap (“Friday Night Dinner.”)

Another significant announcement from the panel is that “Strictly Come Dancing” will be signed live with British Sign Language for the first time in its 20-year history. The show already offers audio descriptions and subtitling.

Both Ayling-Ellis’s documentary and the BSL addition to “Strictly” are part of a BBC British Sign Language season next year, which aims to celebrate signing.
