Third House Collapses in Four Days Along North Carolina Coast

A third house has collapsed along the North Carolina coast within a span of just four days, prompting officials to close the beach due to hazardous debris scattered both on land and in the water. This alarming sequence of events has raised concerns among both residents and officials.

On Tuesday, Cape Hatteras National Seashore law enforcement rangers received a dispatch from Dare County around 1:08 p.m., reporting yet another home collapse on G A Kohler Court in Rodanthe, North Carolina. A statement from the National Park Service confirmed the details.

Upon arrival, rangers verified that the house in question was unoccupied at the time of its collapse. According to officials, the owner has contracted a cleanup service, and Cape Hatteras staff are preparing to assist in the debris removal efforts.

To ensure public safety, a stretch of beach extending from G A Kohler Court in Rodanthe to Wimble Shores North Court in Waves—spanning over two miles—has been temporarily closed. This decision was made due to the dangerous debris in both the water and on the shore.

In light of these incidents, swimmers and surfers have been warned to avoid the waters in front of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo. The National Park Service reported that there is a significant amount of floating debris that poses a serious risk of injury to those who enter the water in the tri-villages area. Furthermore, visitors are urged to wear hard-soled shoes when walking along the beach to protect against potential injuries from sharp wooden debris.

The ongoing cleanup efforts are being coordinated by authorities to address the hazardous conditions left in the aftermath of the collapses. Communities around Rodanthe are on alert as the situation continues to unfold, and officials are monitoring for any further incidents that may occur.
