“Thought It Would Be Too Much of a Downer”

Zach Bryan recently wrapped up his extensive Quittin’ Time tour, where the country music superstar sold out massive stadiums across the nation. The tour concluded on a high note, coinciding with Bryan’s celebration of his first #1 single, “Something In The Orange,” reaching a monumental 1 billion streams on Spotify. This achievement has placed the song among only six country tracks to hit the billion-mark milestone on the platform.

However, it was somewhat surprising that “Something In The Orange,” included in Bryan’s album American Heartbreak, was missing from the setlist for many shows on this tour. This led to fans voicing their disappointment, considering how integral the song is to Zach’s repertoire, much like how Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” or Garth Brooks’ “Friends In Low Places” are staples of their performances.

Upon reflecting on the tour, Bryan acknowledged that leaving the hit single off the setlist might have been a mistake. He provided a logical reasoning for his decision: he wanted to avoid having both “I Remember Everything” and “Something In The Orange” in the same set, fearing it would result in “too many bummers.”

Nevertheless, Zach’s audience probably wouldn’t have minded another melancholic tune, especially when they are his biggest hits to date. Admitting to possibly misjudging his fans’ preferences, Zach shared on social media:

“Kind of misread it this year! Didn’t want to put I remember everything and SITO in the same sets because I thought it would be too many bummers for one night but I think I was wrong. Sorry to anyone who missed it. I’ll prolly regret it for a little bit but letting go and moving on soon enough.”

It’s worth noting that Zach isn’t the only artist who sometimes leaves major hits off their setlist. Artists like Tyler Childers have also excluded popular tracks like “Feathered Indians” from their shows, though Childers recently reintroduced “Whitehouse Road” to his performances.

Ultimately, fans will move past not hearing one particular song during an otherwise incredible concert experience. However, it’s likely that in his future tours, Zach Bryan will ensure “Something In The Orange” makes the setlist, much to the delight of his enthusiastic supporters.
