Three Arrested in Connection with Alleged Acid Attack on Woman

Three individuals from Florida have been arrested in connection with an alleged acid attack on a woman in New Jersey last month, authorities reported on Tuesday.

Law enforcement responded to a residence in Monroe Township on July 26, where a 42-year-old woman was assaulted shortly after she returned home from work. According to the Gloucester County, New Jersey, Prosecutor’s Office, the attack began as the victim opened her car door.

An unidentified female approached her and threw a cup containing a caustic liquid directly at her. After the incident, the assailant fled the scene.

The victim was quickly airlifted to a burn center, where she continues to receive treatment for chemical burns that affected 35% of her body. Officials indicated that the substance used in the attack was likely a highly corrosive acid.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities were able to trace the escape vehicle back to two suspects, identified as 38-year-old Betty Jo Lane and 39-year-old Jmarr McNeil, both from Jacksonville, Florida.

Prosecutors revealed that Lane and McNeil were allegedly hired by 49-year-old William DiBernardino from Boynton Beach, Florida, to execute the attack. The prosecutor’s office stated that the victim had a prior relationship with DiBernardino.

All three suspects were apprehended in Florida. Lane and McNeil were extradited to New Jersey on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Boynton Beach police.

They face several serious charges, including conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and stalking.

As of now, it is unclear whether the suspects have secured legal representation.
