Tia Mowry Shares About Dating and ‘My Next Act’ Reality Show (Exclusive)

Tia Mowry is embracing her new normal following her split from ex-husband Cory Hardrict after nearly 20 years together. The actress spoke with ET’s Deidre Behar at the 2024 BET Awards, where she shared her experiences and thoughts on life with her two children—13-year-old son Cree and 6-year-old daughter Cairo—whom she co-parents with Hardrict.

While Mowry walked the red carpet solo, she revealed that Hardrict accompanied their teen son, fulfilling Cree’s birthday wish.

“His birthday was June 28th, and he wanted to come to the BET Awards. Initially, it wasn’t possible, but we made it happen. Anything to make my son happy! It feels like he’s already accustomed to the red carpet,” Mowry explained.

Mowry has been quite active on social media, sharing moments with her children, often capturing their humorous reluctance to participate on-camera.

“Whatever you see on camera is real. My son often acts like he’s my father,” Mowry quipped about Cree’s frequent appearances in her clips. “But I see it as him being my protector. Even though he sometimes hesitates, he enjoys it a lot.”

Although Cree enjoys being in his mom’s TikTok videos, he has different aspirations. “I want to be a professional basketball player when I grow up,” he shared with ET.

Cairo, on the other hand, is keen on joining her mother’s online activities. Mowry mentioned how her children inspire her. “My kids are my why. I want to be an incredible example for them,” she stated.

Embracing her newly single life, Mowry shared insights into her journey of self-discovery. The couple’s 14-year marriage officially ended in October 2022, and their divorce was finalized in April 2023.

“I am really enjoying this journey of solitude. I took a break from dating to focus on myself. Right now, I am becoming the partner I want, which takes time,” the actress told ET. “I’ve been in solitude, learning a lot about myself. I’m reading this new book, Brave New You, by Corey Allen, and it’s been fantastic.”

Continuing, the Sister Sister star shared advice for women. “You don’t have to jump into another relationship. Work on yourself. I’m enjoying myself right now,” she said.

Fans can follow Mowry’s journey in her upcoming WE tv docuseries, Tia Mowry: My Next Act.

According to a press release, the show, announced in April, will chronicle Mowry as she navigates singlehood, motherhood, building businesses, and balancing her evolving career.

“It’s about me navigating this journey alone, and I feel it will be relatable,” Mowry told ET about her new reality series. “I’m all about inspiring and empowering women and encouraging them to be courageous during life’s transitions, whether it’s a divorce, a change in a job, or other challenges. If I can be a source of inspiration, then I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.”
