The Detroit Tigers joined in on a social media trend this week.

The Tigers went viral on Friday night with a humorous post referencing actress Sydney Sweeney. The “Euphoria” star became a trending topic across social media due to new pictures she shared on her Instagram page, which garners over 21 million followers. Sweeney herself labeled the photos a “thirst trap.”

Sensing an opportunity, the Tigers cleverly decided to highlight their own player named Sweeney — infielder Trey Sweeney. Recently called up from Triple-A Toledo, Trey celebrated his promotion by recording his first career hit against the New York Yankees on Friday night.

“We heard Sweeney is trending,” the Tigers amusingly posted. “Trey Sweeney records his first MLB hit.”

Trey Sweeney, a left-handed batter, is a promising prospect capable of playing both shortstop and third base. He was batting .267 with a .795 OPS in the minor leagues this season. However, he was not quite the Sweeney making waves online that day.

Nonetheless, the Tigers capitalized on the moment perfectly. Sydney Sweeney, meanwhile, could potentially become a free agent fan of MLB teams after her first experience with an MLB team didn’t go too well.
