Tim Allen is extremely enthusiastic about his new comedy sitcom Shifting Gears and hopes it will make a lasting impression. He reflected on his previous endeavors with Home Improvement and Last Man Standing, assuring fans that the upcoming series will offer even better entertainment.
While many fans long for a Home Improvement reboot, Shifting Gears is set for its pilot episode, with Tim not only starring but also serving as an executive producer. He will be joined by writers Mike and Julie Scully in the production. Notably, there have been some recasting changes, with Froy Gutierrez reportedly losing a major character role in the project.
Shifting Gears introduces Tim’s character, Matt, who is a stubborn widower running a car restoration shop. His world is turned upside down when his daughter Riley, played by Kat Dennings, moves in with her teenage children. There’s also Matt’s son, Nick, who has yet to be cast.
Joining Tim on this project are executive producers from Last Man Standing, including Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, and John Pasquin. The sitcom is anticipated to premiere later in 2025.
At 71, questions about Tim eventually retiring are common. However, he clarified last year that he has no intention of leaving the acting scene anytime soon. With a career spanning five decades, Tim continues to remain active and vibrant in the industry.
Tim mentioned that retirement would make him feel empty, as he always needs to stay busy. Much like his “Santa Claus” character, he plans to keep showing up. Off-screen, he remains happily married to Jane Hadjuk, who has appeared in TV shows like Benchmarks and Chicago Hope, and has also performed alongside her husband.
Tim’s undying passion for acting and his never-ending quest for new projects keep him motivated. Fans eagerly await the humor and heart that Shifting Gears promises to bring.
