Todd Packer Reveals Not Everyone Was Friends on ‘The Office’ Set

David Koechner is widely celebrated for his unforgettable portrayals of Todd Packer in “The Office” and Champ Kind in “Anchorman.” While these roles have cemented his status in the entertainment arena, Koechner’s roots are firmly planted in live comedy, which remains a significant part of his current endeavors.

On September 6th and 7th, Koechner will be gracing the stage with his stand-up comedy and hosting an Office trivia night at the NY Comedy Club in Stamford, CT. Recently, we had the opportunity to engage in an insightful conversation with this talented actor and comedian, delving into his experiences on “The Office” and pondering which of his characters he would trust the most.

Lou: I was thinking about you playing Todd Packer on “The Office” and thinking about the show, I do that a lot, I love the show. It’s such a unique setup because it’s an office and it’s one big room and almost everything takes place in that one big room, almost everyone has to be in every scene or at least present. Does that enhance the comradery among the group and bring you all closer together?

David: You would think so, that is a great observation. At least it helps inform what it is that they are emulating or parodying. Yeah, that is a great observation because they are there and it did become its own mini office. Trust me, I was an interloper, right? I wasn’t there all the time but it became this thing where there were you know, never any bad blood but you can imagine some people gravitate towards each other more than others. I’m sure there are little friendships and non-friendships and all those types of things going on within that real area. I probably just got myself in trouble, haha.

Lou: Yeah, now I need to know what the cliques were.

David: Haha, there are some things I won’t, and trust me everyone wants GOS, everyone wants the tea, don’t they? Then, they will always ask, is there someone you don’t like on the show? Then I’ll say yeah! They go, who is it? I’ll say uh-uh.

Lou: I have a “would you rather” question for you. You have to have your child babysat by either Todd Packer from “The Office” or Champ Kind from “Anchorman” who do you choose?

David: Wow, wow, wow. Well, I’m going to say Champ because Champ will ignore the child but probably stay home. Packer will not stay there. Packer will go, yeah, yeah, see yah and then leave. He’ll probably bring some gal or girls over and then he’ll definitely steal something too.

You can listen to our entire interview with David below.
