Tom Hanks & Anjelica Huston’s Near Roles in Star Trek

While “First Contact” co-writer Ronald D. Moore mentioned in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that casting Tom Hanks as Zefram Cochrane “never got that far,” it’s clear that the Oscar-winning actor would have eagerly accepted the role. Speaking on the podcast “Happy Sad Confused,” Hanks shared his enthusiasm for the dream role. “The guy who invented warp drive? Oh, come on, I would’ve jumped on that!” he said. Hanks even joked about how he would make a memorable entrance. “I would have come in, I would have brought gift tribbles to everybody on the first meeting. ‘Guys, here’s some tribbles for you.'”

Hanks has never been shy about his love for Gene Roddenberry’s universe. He once had a friendly “nerd-off” with Star Trek actor Simon Pegg on “The Graham Norton Show.” Additionally, Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard, recounted a close encounter with Hanks in his memoir, “Making It So: A Memoir.” Via CinemaBlend, Stewart revealed, “Tom Hanks has told me he knows all the ‘TNG’ episodes by name, so obsessively has he watched them.”

Despite being an avid fan, Hanks still hasn’t had the opportunity to be a part of the Star Trek franchise. However, fans remain hopeful that, in the future, there might be a place for him in the iconic series. After all, his enthusiasm and genuine love for the show make him a perfect candidate for a future role.

In the meantime, dedicated fans like Hanks continue to keep the spirit of Star Trek alive and vibrant. Their passion only adds to the enduring legacy of the beloved series.
