Top 5 Moments of San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Ranked

Did you miss out on San Diego Comic-Con this year? As grand as the event is, it still can’t accommodate everyone eager to experience it. For many, Comic-Con remains an ephemeral dream, lived through social media posts and online videos. But for those who attended, it’s a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

Unsurprisingly, Marvel dominated Comic-Con with its two Hall H panels. However, it wasn’t the only major player on the stage. With DC largely absent, except for The Penguin panel, Prime Video made quite an impact, securing two spots in our top five moments of San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

Prime Video brought The Rings of Power to Hall H. The series, although divisive among Tolkien fans, managed to put on an exceptional show. Composer Bear McCreary set the stage with a powerful musical performance that felt more like a concert. The event also featured the unveiling of a new trailer for the second season and a surprise appearance by members of the cast. One of the standout moments was an orc appearing in character, adding an unexpected twist to the gathering.

Michael C. Hall is back as Dexter. Originally slated to be a panel for the upcoming prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, the session took an exciting turn when it was revealed that Hall will not only narrate the miniseries but also reprise his role in a second sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection. The news had the audience erupting in joy, hardly concerned about how the storyline would justify Dexter Morgan’s survival after his apparent death in Dexter: New Blood.

The Boys brought Broadway to Comic-Con in another brilliant showcase by Prime Video. A troupe of professional Broadway singers opened the panel with satirical songs from season 4, including the humorous tune Put the Christ Back in Christmas. Following this musical start, nearly the entire cast took the stage to discuss the upcoming fifth and final season. They also announced a new spinoff prequel series, Vought Rising, and confirmed the return of the first spinoff, Gen V, which will air its second season in 2025.

Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine panel was a major highlight. The panel kicked off with a choir’s rendition of Madonna’s Like a Prayer before Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy took the stage. The biggest reveal was the exclusive Comic-Con screening of the entire Deadpool & Wolverine film, making it one of the largest movie premieres at the convention.

The return of Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers was undoubtedly the pinnacle of Comic-Con. The Marvel Hall H panel on Saturday was the most anticipated event, culminating in the grand reveal of Doctor Doom. Robert Downey Jr., flanked by Doom duplicates, unmasked on stage to confirm his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, will return to direct the next two Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday is set for release in May 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027.

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 was packed with excitement and surprises, from unforgettable performances to ground-breaking reveals. It’s an event that sets the stage for what’s to come in the world of entertainment, leaving fans eager for next year.
