Torrey DeVitto Didn’t Want to Return to ‘Vampire Diaries’ Post-Divorce

Torrey DeVitto expressed no regrets about leaving The Vampire Diaries after her divorce from Paul Wesley.

The Pretty Little Liars alum participated in seasons 3 and 4 of the popular supernatural drama as Dr. Meredith Fell. DeVitto and Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore, were married from 2011 to 2013. In a recent episode of Rachel Bilson’s Broad Ideas podcast, DeVitto opened up about the “really dark time” she went through following their split.

“It was [public],” DeVitto said, acknowledging the attention their divorce attracted due to Wesley’s prominence on the show.

DeVitto admitted she had no interest in continuing her role on The Vampire Diaries after their separation. “I was [on it], but I only did like six episodes. And then once we were splitting up, I was like, ‘Pfft, not going back there,’” she recalled. “I’m not that kind of person who can separate business and personal life like that. I didn’t want to come back. I’m good, thank you.”

Further, the Chicago Med actress mentioned that the public scrutiny surrounding their divorce was tough to handle. “That did garner a bit of attention in a way that I don’t think I was prepared for,” DeVitto said. “And then it was hard too because for a couple of years, anybody that I would date afterwards, people would just [say], ‘He’s so disgusting. He’ll never be [Wesley]. How could you do this?’”

According to DeVitto, the public’s reaction was “mortifying” because fans “glamorized” Wesley’s character on The Vampire Diaries, even though they didn’t really “know him.”

Wesley and DeVitto met on the set of 2007’s Killer Movie and tied the knot four years later. The couple parted ways two years after their marriage.

Following their divorce, Wesley dated Phoebe Tonkin, who played Hayley Marshall on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. He later married Ines de Ramon, but they separated in 2022. Recently, Wesley has been romantically linked to model Natalie Kuckenberg.

DeVitto, on the other hand, is currently engaged to Jared LaPine, and they are expecting their first child together.
