Travis Kelce Cast in First Movie Role With a John Wick Twist

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, is making a splash in Hollywood, securing his first movie role in the action-comedy film, Loose Cannons. The movie will be produced by notable figures involved in the John Wick franchise.

According to Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Kelce will star in Loose Cannons, a Lionsgate film. The project is being financed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick: Chapter 4) and Jason Spitz of 87Eleven Entertainment. Stahelski, who is renowned for directing the John Wick films, has also contributed as the second-unit director for other major movies like Captain America: Civil War and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The Hollywood Reporter has also shared insights on the film. As per their descriptions, Loose Cannons revolves around two unconventional officers who are forced to team up when their precincts merge due to budget cuts. These officers become the go-to team for tackling cases no one else can handle.

The police precinct in Loose Cannons features a wild, rule-breaking officer. Rather than pairing this officer with a by-the-book colleague, they are matched with another equally unorthodox officer. This intriguing dynamic is expected to drive the film’s narrative.

This new role marks an exciting turn for Travis Kelce, who is about to make his acting debut. He already has a role lined up in Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie, but Loose Cannons will be his first big-screen appearance. It’s evident that Kelce is contemplating life after football. At 34, he is closer to the end of his NFL career than the beginning, and Loose Cannons could be his ticket to a successful career in Hollywood.

Currently, Kelce and the Chiefs are preparing to defend their Super Bowl title. Despite a slow start with 0-2 in their first two preseason games, they have an opportunity to turn things around against the Chicago Bears on August 22. The Chiefs will kick off their 2024-2025 NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5, marking the official start of the regular season. Following that, they have games lined up against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Atlanta Falcons.

The Chiefs are coming off their third Super Bowl victory in the Patrick Mahomes era, having appeared in four Super Bowls since Mahomes became the starting quarterback.

Drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft after attending the University of Cincinnati, Kelce had a rocky start. He played only one game in his rookie season before an injury sidelined him. However, he became a dominant force in the league from his second season onwards. Kelce had his first 1,000-yard season in 2016, the first of seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, a streak that was only broken in 2023 when he recorded 984 receiving yards.

Throughout his career, Kelce has broken numerous records and earned several accolades. He was named to nine consecutive Pro Bowls from 2015-2023 and was included in the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team. Additionally, he has been named to seven All-Pro teams (four First-team and three Second-team). Kelce also holds NFL postseason records for the most receptions (165) and touchdowns by a tight end (19). Moreover, he boasts the most 1,000-yard receiving seasons (seven) by a tight end.
