Travis Kelce recently shared details about his surprise stage appearance with Taylor Swift, revealing that it was initially his idea.
The Kansas City Chiefs star recounted the experience to his brother Jason on this week’s episode of “New Heights.” Initially, Kelce wanted to ride a bike during the 1989 segment of one of Swift’s “Eras Tour” shows.
However, concerns about the big football player accidentally colliding with other backup dancers led Swift to suggest a different role for him. She proposed a part in the “Tortured Poets Department” section of her set.
The plan came together just before her shows in London last month, resulting in a flawless execution on June 23.
During the performance, just before Swift performed “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart,” Kelce dramatically brought the singer back to life, dressed in a tuxedo. He described the experience to Jason as “awesome.”
“It was a blast, man,” the tight end said. “I had so much fun. It was an honor being on stage.”
Despite the enjoyment, Travis admitted to feeling nervous in front of the packed stadium alongside Swift, particularly worried about the possibility of dropping her as he carried her to the on-stage sofa.
“Listen,” he shared with Jason, “the one thing I told myself is: ‘Do not drop the baby. Do not drop this – do not drop Taylor on your way over to this damn couch.'”
Kelce managed to get through the performance smoothly, leading to Jason expressing his pride, telling his little brother, “You guys killed it.”
There’s no word yet if an encore is in the works, but if it’s going to happen again, it needs to be soon as Kelce has to return to his day job later this month.
