Travis Kelce Responds to Taylor Swift Writing Football Plays

Taylor Swift, renowned for her Grammy-winning hits, is now dabbling in the world of football, according to Travis Kelce. The NFL star confirmed that Swift has been using her spare time to draft plays for the Kansas City Chiefs.

“She had just been so open to learning the game, she didn’t know much about the rules or anything,” Kelce shared with the Rich Eisen Show. “She was just curious about the profession.”

While none of Swift’s plays have made their way to Coach Reid yet, Kelce promises to give her credit if they do. When asked if Swift has created plays for the entire team, Kelce humorously admitted that she has been a bit biased, focusing on plays specifically for him. “We’ll see if they can make it to Coach Reid’s office,” he added.

This revelation from Kelce comes after Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes mentioned Swift’s interest in the NFL during a conversation with NBC reporter Chris Simms. “She’s really interested in football, she asks a lot of great questions. She’s already drawing up plays so we might have to put one in,” Mahomes noted. “I think it’s been cool to see the girls and the women that have really embraced watching football,” he continued.

Swift attended 13 NFL games last season, with her first appearance in September sparking romance rumors with Kelce. While some fans enjoyed her presence, others grew annoyed at the frequent television shots of the pop star. Addressing these critics, Swift told TIME during her Person of the Year profile that she was unaware of how often she was shown on the broadcast.

“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she remarked. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is. I have no idea when the camera is putting me in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.” She emphasized that she was simply there to support Kelce, saying, “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

Despite some negative reactions, Swift’s appearances have positively impacted NFL viewership. ESPN’s Omar Roja noted a significant “Taylor Swift bump” in ratings, especially during the Chicago Bears vs. Chiefs game where she first showed up. Although the increased viewership wasn’t as pronounced as the season progressed, Roja acknowledged that the NFL managed to reach a broader audience, including fans who might not have been engaged before.
