Travis Kelce’s viral Kermit the Frog impression of Mahomes draws laughs on TV

Travis Kelce showcased his Hollywood acting chops by delivering a spot-on impression of Patrick Mahomes during the Kansas City Chiefs game on Saturday.

Earlier that day, Kelce and Mahomes had already made waves with an incredible behind-the-back pass from Mahomes to Kelce during their preseason match against the Detroit Lions. While some assumed it was a strategic play straight from Andy Reid’s playbook, Mahomes later revealed he was actually upset with Kelce for running the wrong route, prompting the flashy pass.

In a light-hearted gesture, Kelce was then asked to respond and he did so by mimicking Mahomes with a hilarious Kermit the Frog-style impression.

“It wasn’t a play? Nah, it was a play… it was a first down,” Kelce said during a live TV interview when questioned about the viral moment. He then explained he may have misheard his quarterback due to Mahomes’ distinctive voice.

“You know he’s got the voice thing, so he kind of mumbles,” Kelce jokingly explained, producing a sound remarkably like The Muppets’ famous character.

“So he kind of mumbled out the play and I couldn’t hear it. I was walking up to the line trying to decipher what he was saying, and before I knew it he snapped the ball,” he added.

As expected, social media was quick to react. One fan commented, “No way Kelce just called Mahomes Kermit the Frog!” Another said, “Tight end, backup dancer at the Eras Tour, Mahomes impression. Travis Kelce can do it all.”

Earlier in the day, Mahomes had expressed his frustration about the play. “Travis didn’t run the route he was supposed to run. I was mad, I was p*ssed off at Travis,” he explained. “Out of spite, I threw a behind-the-back pass. But now it’s going to be a highlight!”

Kelce and Mahomes share a close bond, which has possibly grown even deeper over the past year due to Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift.

The two often double-date with Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift, and Mahomes’ wife has warmly welcomed Swift into the Chiefs family at several games throughout 2023 and 2024.

As the 2024 season approaches, there’s been much speculation about how many games Swift will attend. The Chiefs’ first game is against the Ravens on September 5, coinciding with a break in Swift’s sold-out worldwide Eras Tour.
