EXCLUSIVE: The West Mesa Murders, the shocking killings of eleven women whose remains were found buried in 2009 in the New Mexico desert, is to be the subject of a true crime docu-series.

The unsolved murder case was recently the subject of Lionsgate’s acquisition Boneyard, starring Mel Gibson and 50 Cent. That film’s director, Asif Akbar, is back aboard to helm the crime series. He will be teaming up with New Mexican producer Vincent E. McDaniel and LA-based producer Brian A. Metcalf.

The plan is for the series to include interviews with the victims’ families, witnesses, and law enforcement. Additionally, it will feature archival footage, clips from the Boneyard film, and interviews with individuals closely involved in the investigations.

Several suspects have been named in the West Mesa Murders investigation, but no arrests or charges have been made. While the killings were initially believed to be the work of a serial killer, the involvement of a sex trafficking ring is also suspected.

Metcalf, known for his work on the series UnderDeveloped, will be showrunning and executive-producing the docu-series. Akbar will be an executive producer. Both Akbar and Metcalf are also collaborating on the upcoming TV series, A Motel, starring Mark Pellegrino.

Akbar is represented by Kimberly Hines of Artist International Group, while Metcalf is represented by Michael Pio of Innovative Artists and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
