Trump Campaign Rejects Foo Fighters’ Claim of Unauthorized Song Use

Former President Trump’s campaign is challenging the Foo Fighters’ assertion that their song “My Hero” was used without authorization during a campaign rally.

A representative for the Foo Fighters stated to The Hill on Sunday night that the band did not grant permission for Trump’s campaign to play the song at a rally in Arizona last Friday. According to the spokesperson, any royalties earned from the song’s use would be donated to Vice President Harris’s campaign.

“Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were they would not have granted it,” the spokesperson emphasized.

Contrarily, the Trump campaign asserts that it had the necessary rights to play the song.

“We have a license to play the song,” said Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung in an email to The Hill.

Cheung also addressed the issue on the social media platform X, writing, “It’s Times Like These facts matter, don’t be a Pretender. @foofighters,” alluding to two other songs by the band.

“My Hero” was heard playing at Trump’s rally in Glendale, Arizona, as the former president introduced then-presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy had suspended his campaign earlier that day and expressed his support for Trump.

On Monday, the Foo Fighters’ spokesperson reiterated that no permission was granted for the use of the song, reinforcing that the band would not have approved its use even if asked.

“Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and again, even if they had been they would not have granted it,” the spokesperson confirmed.
