Barron Trump, the youngest son of the former president, has begun his freshman year at New York University, which has led to a surge of TikTok videos capturing the 18-year-old navigating campus life. These clips often show him followed closely by Secret Service agents.

Students at NYU have been eager to share their brief and blurry videos of Barron, earning him the designation of “Sasquatch-esque” by WIRED. The clips feature a tall, 6’9” freshman darting from class to class in quick, haphazard shots. Many TikTok users have taken these videos, added their edits, and set them to various popular songs.

On September 10, one video amassed 12,000 likes, depicting Barron in an all-black outfit as he wanders through the NYU hallways, accompanied by a remix of Charlie Puth’s “We Don’t Talk Anymore.” Another similar clip, this time set to Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” garnered over 21,000 views and more than 500 likes.

Another video posted on September 5, featuring Barron in a white polo shirt and carrying a black backpack on his first day of class, received over 41,000 likes. In every clip, it’s clear that a group of older men, possibly Secret Service agents, are trailing close behind him.

Paul Eckloff, a former Secret Service agent with experience protecting Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump, highlighted the importance of monitoring social media for the safety of presidential children. He explained that a photo or video of a president’s child, shared on social media, could expose their location and make them a potential target.

“The Secret Service has to monitor [social media],” Eckloff commented. “The general threat environment we face today is greater than ever before. People’s locations and activities can easily become public knowledge, and social media is incredibly reactive.”

Barron is not the first child of a president to attract such attention while attending college. In 2017, when Malia Obama began her studies at Harvard, students quickly flocked to social media with photos and videos of her life at school.

After graduating from the prestigious Oxbridge Academy in Florida earlier this year, Barron chose NYU for his college education. He recently made headlines when he was absent from an event for the launch of his family’s new cryptocurrency venture, despite expectations from his brothers, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.

During a live interview about the launch, crypto entrepreneur Farokh Sarmad humorously noted Barron’s absence, saying, “He’s not here anymore, we took too long.” Donald Trump Jr. chimed in, joking about being the “grumpy old man” in the scenario.

There are indications that Barron may be heading toward a potential political career. Trump’s former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, revealed that Barron has been consulted on how to connect with younger voters. Reportedly, he played a significant role in coordinating Trump’s interview with the well-known social media influencer Adin Ross, popular among young men.

Barron was also present at a campaign rally in July, where he was introduced by his father. During the event, Barron acknowledged the crowd with a wave and a fist pump, as Trump humorously reflected on Barron’s popularity compared to his other sons.
