Trump Slams Clooney as ‘Backstabber’ and ‘Third-Rate Actor’ in Op-Ed Feud

Former President Donald Trump harshly criticized George Clooney, labeling him a “backstabber” and a “third-rate movie actor” following Clooney’s op-ed in the New York Times, where Clooney suggested President Joe Biden should not seek re-election.

Trump expressed his disapproval during an appearance on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show. He remarked, “Regardless of what you think of Biden, he’s been nice to Clooney.” He described Clooney’s comments as disloyal, adding, “third-rate movie actor.”

Just before the debate on June 27, Clooney co-hosted a significant fundraiser in Los Angeles that raised over $30 million for Biden. Since that event, Biden has faced mounting pressure from Democratic lawmakers and celebrities to step down from the 2024 race.

In his New York Times op-ed, Clooney reflected, “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

Following the debate, Biden’s campaign has been in damage control mode. The president appeared confused and frail, with a raspy voice, struggling to complete his thoughts and committing several gaffes.

On Thursday night, during a press conference at the end of the NATO summit in Washington, Biden forcefully dismissed calls for him to step aside. “I think I’m the most qualified. I beat him once and I will beat him again,” he said of Trump. “I’m not in this for my legacy. I’m in it to finish the job I’ve started.”

Trump, whose campaign is reportedly keen to see Biden stay in the race as he might find it harder to beat a younger Democrat, commented on Friday, “Clooney was a television actor and never made really a good movie. So he’s sort of third-rate.” “Clark Gable he’s not. I thought it was a great act of disloyalty,” he added.

On Wednesday, Trump also attacked Clooney on Truth Social. He wrote, “So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?”

Trump continued, “Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!”

In a fundraising email sent on Friday, Trump’s committee queried, “George Clooney just said Biden should drop out. Does that mean he’s endorsing me?! Even though he’s a proud member of the Hate-America Hollywood Elite, I will gladly accept his endorsement IF he pledges to change his ways!”
