Trump Slams Harris After CNN Interview: ‘She’s a Defective Person’

Former President Donald Trump recently took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris following her interview with CNN, labeling her as “defective.” Trump expressed this sentiment during the annual gathering of Moms for Liberty, a conservative organization, stating that Harris would have been better off just doing interviews, regardless of their quality.

“Now everyone’s watching, and now we see, she’s defective,” Trump said, clarifying that the country does not need another “defective person” in the presidency, a remark likely aimed at President Joe Biden. Biden had withdrawn from the presidential race the previous month, subsequently endorsing Harris.

Trump described Biden during a June presidential debate as “sharp as a tack,” but noted that it felt “unfair” to him that he had to exert significant resources in pursuing the wrong opponent at the Republican National Convention held in Milwaukee last month. After Biden exited the race late July, he shifted his focus back onto Harris.

This criticism followed Harris’s first major interview as a presidential nominee, which occurred alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D). The interview, conducted by CNN’s Dana Bash, came in response to mounting pressure for Harris to speak publicly. Trump has intensified his attacks on Harris as her profile has risen since her position as the leading candidate for the Democratic ticket became more established.

During the interview, Harris confronted inquiries regarding her racial identity, labeling the questioning as part of a repetitive and “tired” approach. When Bash pressed for more on this topic, Harris simply replied, “That’s it.”

Briefly commenting on Harris’s interview while campaigning in Pennsylvania, Trump remarked, “Did you see her on television last night? This is gonna be the president of our country? I don’t think so.” He did not shy away from criticizing Bash either, referring to her as “nasty” and suggesting that CNN should be ashamed of the interview quality.

“You know, I know Dana. She’s always, you know, always nasty. She was so nice to the Democrats,” Trump stated, calling the interview “very weak” from CNN’s perspective.

Trump and his allies have accused CNN of pre-taping the interview rather than broadcasting it live, alleging it was a strategic move to obscure any potential missteps by Harris. Nonetheless, the entirety of the interview was aired as indicated at the beginning of the program, with no significant gaffes noted.

It is notable that this criticism stands in stark contrast to Trump’s previous praise for CNN’s moderators, including Bash and anchor Jake Tapper, who he commended in June for their handling of a debate against Biden, claiming they treated him fairly.

As reactions continue to unfold, the Hill has reached out to both the Harris campaign and the White House for further comments. The dynamic between Trump and Harris is expected to intensify as the election season progresses, with both sides gearing up for a contentious battle ahead.
