Trump Stuns Booing Supporters by Praising Harris’s ‘Nice Call’ Twice

In a tense atmosphere before a booing crowd in Flint, Michigan, former President Donald Trump spoke about a phone call he received from Vice President Kamala Harris. This call followed a recent assassination attempt against him as he campaigns for the presidency once more.

Trump began, “I have to say that President Biden called me yesterday; it was a very nice conversation. I appreciated that he called about, you know what happened the other day.” He then continued, noting, “A little while ago, I got a very nice call from Kamala. It was very nice … and we appreciate that, but we have to take back our country. We have to win. We’re going to win, and we’re going to make America great again.”

Despite Trump’s positive remarks about Harris, parts of the crowd booed when she was mentioned. Nevertheless, he reiterated later in the town hall that the Vice President “couldn’t have been nicer” during their conversation.

These comments contrasted sharply with his typical rhetoric about Harris, whom Trump has labeled as a “communist,” “Marxist,” and “fascist.” He has often claimed that her election could spell disaster for the nation.

During the event, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the town hall moderator and former Trump White House press secretary, remarked to a cheering crowd, “I think it’s safe to say that this crowd will all be voting for you.”

A White House spokesperson described the call between Harris and Trump as “cordial and brief.” Harris reportedly expressed her gratitude that Trump was safe following the alarming incident.

Harris herself commented on the situation, saying, “I checked on to see if he was okay.” Speaking to the National Association of Black Journalists, she added, “I told him what I have said publicly – there’s no place for political violence in our country. I am in this election and this race for many reasons, including to fight for our democracy, and in a democracy, there is no place for political violence.”

This latest exchange comes on the heels of the two candidates’ first debate in Philadelphia last week. They briefly interacted again at a memorial event for the 9/11 attacks, where Trump appeared to tell Harris, “Good job.”

On Monday, during their conversation, Trump mentioned they discussed matters concerning the Secret Service. Earlier that day, he had asserted that both Harris and Biden were responsible for the climate that led to the recent assassination attempt.

Biden has acknowledged the need for increased resources for the Secret Service and has urged Congress to provide support. The recent attempt on Trump’s life occurred on a Sunday while he was playing golf in West Palm Beach. Secret Service agents noticed the barrel of a rifle protruding from the fence of the golf course, leading to a rapid response that involved agents firing at the suspect, who subsequently fled.

The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was quickly captured after a witness documented the vehicle’s license plate. He has since been charged with two firearm violations.
