In a recent interview, actor and vocal Donald Trump supporter Jon Voight repeatedly criticized his daughter Angelina Jolie’s stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Voight, a staunch supporter of Israel, believes Jolie has been swayed by misinformation and antisemitic influences.

Variety’s Stephen Rodrick detailed these conversations with Voight, highlighting the actor’s frustration over Jolie’s political views. While Voight supports Israel, Jolie has publicly criticized the country’s treatment of Palestinians in Gaza. Israel’s recent strikes aimed at Hamas have led to significant destruction in Gaza following the deadly Oct. 7 attack that resulted in over 1,000 deaths.

Voight suggested that Jolie has been influenced by propaganda and antisemitic people. “She has been exposed to propaganda,” Voight stated. “She’s been influenced by antisemitic people. Angie has a connection to the [United Nations], and she’s enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees.”

In the weeks after the Israel-Hamas conflict escalated, Jolie took to Instagram to condemn Israel, describing Gaza as an “open-air prison” and accusing Israel of deliberately bombing a trapped population. At that time, Voight publicly countered his daughter’s statements.

Voight elaborated on his perspective to Rodrick, arguing that Jolie may not have access to accurate information due to the influence of Hollywood, which he describes as a “bubble.” He said, “Angie, I think she hasn’t been available to this information because in Hollywood people don’t share this kind of stuff. They’re way off. They have no idea what’s going on. It’s a bubble.”

When Rodrick questioned this belief, pointing out Jolie’s extensive work as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Voight insisted that Jolie is being unduly influenced by the U.N.

“I love my daughter. I don’t want to fight with my daughter,” he said emotionally. “But the fact is, I think she has been influenced by the U.N. From the beginning, it’s been awful with human rights. They call it human rights, but it’s just anti-Israel bashing.”

Voight, known for his pro-Trump commentary, further claimed that Jolie is ignorant of the real stakes and the true story in Israel. He asserted, “She’s ignorant of what the real stakes are and what the real story is because she’s in the loop of the United Nations.”

Despite the disagreements, Voight acknowledged his daughter’s capabilities and their recent collaboration on a stage production of “The Outsiders.” He expressed his admiration by saying, “I am happy when Angie is happy. When she’s having a tough time, I’m having a tough time. When she is down, I’m down.”

Voight described himself as one of Hollywood’s “most outspoken” supporters of Trump. He received the National Medal of the Arts from Trump in 2019 and tied his public support to broader perceptions. Reflecting on a recent incident where there was an attempted assassination of Trump, Voight pondered whether this would influence how people view both Trump and himself.

“Now, after this, maybe they will look at Jon Voight in a different way. If Donald Trump is being revealed in this way, maybe they will see a supporter like me in a different light,” he remarked.
