Tubi Expresses Interest in Acquiring Wrestling Programming

As WWE heads into its largest deal yet with Netflix in 2025, which will bring WWE Raw and original programming to the platform, it has paved the way for other companies to secure significant deals. AEW President Tony Khan explained how WWE’s deal has benefitted AEW in many ways, and it appears that a new platform is now eager to capitalize on the success of professional wrestling by acquiring a promotion of their own.

Fightful Select reports that the free streaming platform Tubi is interested in investing in a wrestling program. However, instead of acquiring an existing promotion, Tubi intends to build a new one from the ground up. With professional wrestling currently experiencing one of its hottest periods, various entities are keen on entering the business.

Freddie Prinze Jr., an actor and former WWE writer, has shared his process of creating his own wrestling promotion and securing a television deal. Through his podcast, he has provided fans with exciting and not-so-exciting updates on his journey. A few years ago, Tubi showed interest in acquiring MLW, but an anti-trust lawsuit accusing WWE of interfering in the deal began in 2022, eventually being settled a year later. It’s no surprise that Tubi would prefer to start from scratch this time.

The founding of AEW in 2019 and their first television deal with Warner Bros. Discovery marked the creation of new opportunities in professional wrestling for the first time in decades. As AEW negotiates their next deal, the landscape of the industry is poised for change. AEW isn’t the only promotion to enter the mainstream scene recently; TNA has also gained substantial momentum due to their ongoing partnership with WWE.

This partnership has resulted in significant success for TNA, which is seeing record ticket sales. The two companies have performed several talent exchanges in recent months. Women’s Wrestling is experiencing a similar rise in popularity with WOW – Women of Wrestling. As nearly every television screen in the United States featured WOW, it was reported in 2022 by The New York Times that WOW was the highest-viewed wrestling promotion outside of WWE and AEW.

Stay tuned for more updates on Tubi’s ventures into professional wrestling.
