Twisters Cast Reacts to David Corenswet’s Casting as Superman

The Twisters cast had a reason to celebrate when they discovered their co-star David Corenswet would be playing Superman in an upcoming film. Twisters has been a massive success at the box office, even outdoing its 1996 predecessor, Twister. David Corenswet, one of the film’s stars, was announced earlier this year by DC Studios and James Gunn as the next actor to don the iconic Superman cape. This news delighted both fans and the Twisters cast alike.

Twisters star Brandon Perea shared several behind-the-scenes videos from the set on social media, capturing the crew’s enthusiastic reaction to Corenswet’s Superman announcement. In one of the clips, fellow cast members Glen Powell and Sasha Lane can be seen jumping and cheering. “Brandon, congrats!! That’s our Superman, baby!!” Perea exclaimed. The footage reveals the genuine joy and support the Twisters team has for Corenswet, recognizing the significance of taking on such a legendary role, especially with the DC Universe being relaunched under James Gunn. You can view the video in the fifth slide of Perea’s post.

At the end of July, it was confirmed that James Gunn’s Superman had wrapped up filming. This film marks the debut in Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios, featuring David Corenswet in the role of Clark Kent / Superman. Corenswet celebrated the end of production with a social media post.

In the video, Corenswet is seen contemplating his Superman character while enjoying a piece of chocolate cake, likely in celebration of finishing his rigorous superhero training regimen.

According to DC Studios, the new Superman film explores the hero’s effort to balance his Kryptonian legacy with his life as the human Clark Kent, raised in Smallville, Kansas. The film portrays Superman as a symbol of truth, justice, and hope, who upholds kindness in a world that often sees it as outdated.

The cast of Superman also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.

Twisters itself is an intriguing film that follows Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a former storm chaser traumatized by a tornado encounter during her college years. Now, she studies storm patterns from the safety of New York City. She is eventually drawn back to the open plains by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. During her return, she meets Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a social media superstar known for his daring storm-chasing exploits.

As the storm season intensifies, terrifying and unprecedented weather phenomena are unleashed. Kate, Tyler, and their respective teams find themselves confronting multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma.

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Twisters stars Brandon Perea (Nope), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Nik Dodani (Atypical), David Corenswet (Superman), Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), and Golden Globe winner Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy).

Twisters is now playing in theaters and will return to 4DX on August 30th.
