Tye Trujillo Talks About OTTTO’s New Frontman

While OTTTO are currently on tour with Bastardane, founding member and bassist Tye Trujillo recently took the opportunity to join Loudwire Nights to discuss the band’s new lineup. Trujillo shared insights about their fresh start with Tito Dutta as the new frontman.

“We’re obviously on the same trajectory as we were before, but also, we have a fresh start,” Trujillo told host Chuck Armstrong when talking about Dutta’s addition.

Fans will be excited to know that welcoming Dutta has also meant working on new songs. “We’re writing new music,” Trujillo said, “but we don’t really have much of a timeline yet. We still need to finish up pre-production stuff and we still have a lot of time ahead. But, we’re trying to get it out soonish.”

Apart from focusing on new music, Dutta is getting accustomed to life on the road. The band is currently touring the states with Bastardane, with their schedule including Saturday night shows between Metallica’s M72 tour stops.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Trujillo noted about playing these M72 gigs. “There’s gonna be some nights where not many people show up, and you still gotta go up there and bring it your all. It’s a lot of fun.”

As the son of Robert Trujillo, Tye was asked by Chuck what it’s like to play for die-hard Metallica fans. “It’s cool. If they’re there to support us, too, I’m appreciative of it,” he replied.

During the discussion on Loudwire Nights, Tye Trujillo also talked about:

  • His favorite aspects of playing with Suicidal Tendencies
  • OTTTO’s growth and evolution since he founded the band as a teenager
  • How his personal musical tastes have changed and why that benefits the band’s sound

Tye Trujillo joined Loudwire Nights on Wednesday, Aug. 7. You can catch the show live every weeknight at 7 PM ET or via the Loudwire app.
