Usher Halts Concert to Honor Free from ‘106 & Park’ with Flowers
Usher made a notable pause during his Past Present Future Tour recently, and for a good reason: he spotted 106 & Park’s Free. On Thursday, August 29, when the tour stopped at TD Garden in Boston, the night was filled with theatrical moments, as shown in viral videos.
In one video, Usher is seen wearing a red fur coat, walking towards the front of the stage, and holding a glass of cognac. The DJ was preparing to play “Throwback” when the Confessions artist noticed his longtime friend in the front row. “Is that Free I see in the VIP?” he said, gesturing to the DJ to cut the music. The audience at TD Garden initially seemed confused but soon realized a local celebrity was among them.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Usher made his way into the VIP section to embrace Free and put her on the arena’s jumbotron so everyone could see and celebrate her. After a warm embrace, the Grammy Award-winning singer graciously offered her a drink, which she gladly accepted.
Free later took to social media to share her excitement, posting, “About last night. Usher gave the kid so much love in the hometown! Fur and the GRILLS! Beantown I LOVE you back infinity. Thank YOU, and Goodnight.” She followed up with multiple reposts from fans and friends, encouraging people to respect her name and learn about her if they didn’t already know.
“Very Special. Very Deserved. Very Boston,” read another post shared on her IG Story. “When Usher makes ya a drink while working,” Free responded. She also uploaded a throwback video from 106 & Park, where she had interviewed Usher about his legendary Confessions album. “Witness genuine love last night,” she commented. “I remember this episode.”
