Usher’s Mom, Jonnetta Patton, Shines as a Culinary Star with New Food Business

Jonnetta Patton is well-known for her role in managing the career of her son, R&B icon Usher. Shifting from artist management to the culinary world, the former “momager” has recently launched a new venture: a food truck.

Patton’s latest enterprise, J’s Smokehouse, made its debut in metro Atlanta on August 2. According to WSB-TV, her current passion lies in the food industry.

“I enjoyed 17 years of creating one of the biggest artists in the world,” Patton said. “I’m doing the same thing with my [cooking] incubator and now J’s Smokehouse.”

Patton has innovated the traditional barbecue menu by incorporating more inclusive options.

She added, “What makes the menu different are our options, especially the vegan ones. We have a pulled pork sandwich, and we also offer a vegan hot dog in the smokehouse. And they are amazing.”

To show his support for his mom’s new business, Usher attended the grand opening, eager to try the food. Patton mentioned that Usher was immensely proud of her.

While Patton’s new venture is flourishing, her son has encountered some challenges as he kicks off his latest world tour. Following a successful residency in Las Vegas, the 45-year-old had to postpone his initial concerts in Atlanta.

“He always wants to give his best, and it was just very stressful,” Patton explained. “It was very, very stressful, but he’s OK. His doctors have advised him to rest. He needs to rest because he’s a hard worker coming off a Super Bowl performance and everything else in between. It was too much.”

Although there has been a delay, Usher is gearing up for the rest of his world tour. In the meantime, Patton is focused on her food truck and a culinary incubator, which provides a shared kitchen experience for chefs.
