Utah QB Cam Rising’s Game-Time Decision Against Oklahoma State

Utah quarterback Cam Rising is facing a crucial game-time decision as he deals with an injury to his throwing hand, according to sources. Although there is an expectation that he will try to start, his situation remains uncertain.

The No. 12 ranked Utah team is set to take on No. 14 Oklahoma State this Saturday, marking one of the most significant matchups of the season in the Big 12 conference.

Rising’s participation in practice this week has been limited because of his injury, and if he does play, he is not expected to be at full strength. He will be monitored closely to assess how his injured fingers affect his throwing ability. The condition of his fingers is crucial, as they significantly influence the spin and velocity of the ball, impacting his overall effectiveness during the game.

During warm-ups for the game against Utah State, Rising was seen wearing a glove on his hand. Additionally, he was spotted on the sidelines with two of his fingers wrapped during the Baylor game. It remains unclear whether he will opt for the glove in Saturday’s match. Given that Utah’s offensive strategy predominantly involves snaps taken under center and utilizes clapping as a means of signaling snaps, the injury could be further tested.

If Rising is unable to play, backup quarterback Isaac Wilson will likely take the helm. Wilson, a true freshman, made his first career start against Utah State and performed well by completing 20 of 33 passing attempts for 239 yards, along with three touchdowns.

Wilson is notably the younger brother of Zach Wilson, who previously starred at BYU and has made a name for himself in the NFL.

Cam Rising is a seventh-year senior and has been regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the Pac-12 over the past two seasons. Unfortunately, he has been plagued by injuries in recent years, with a significant injury sustained during the Rose Bowl at the end of the 2022 season leading to his absence for the entire 2023 season.

The recent hand injury occurred in a freak accident during the second quarter of the Baylor game. After throwing the ball away, Rising was pushed out of bounds and landed awkwardly on the water coolers situated on the Baylor sideline, resulting in his hand injury.

Despite the circumstances, Rising dressed for the Utah State game and participated in warm-ups while wearing the protective glove, signaling his determination to return to the field.
