VMA Records: Taylor Swift, Anitta, Eminem Poised for Historic Wins

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are shaping up to be a memorable ceremony, featuring some of the biggest names in music like Eminem, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish. This year’s show could witness several artists smashing records and making history on the VMA stage.

At the top of the list is Taylor Swift, who has a strong chance of breaking the record for the most VMA wins. Currently, Beyoncé holds this record with 27 Moonpersons, but Swift is not far behind. With 23 wins already and ten nominations this year, Swift needs just five more trophies to surpass Beyoncé. Given that she clinched nine awards last year, this seems quite possible. Swift is a strong contender in categories like Best Pop, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Artist of the Year, and Video of the Year. Moreover, fan-voted categories could see a significant push from her dedicated Swifties, making her triumph likely.

Let’s also discuss the male artists. Right now, Eminem is tied with Peter Gabriel for the most wins by a male artist, each having 13 VMAs. With six nominations this year, largely owing to his hit “Houdini,” Eminem has a solid chance of breaking this tie. While he may not bag the Video of the Year award, categories like Best Hip-Hop, Best Editing, Best Direction, and Best Visual Effects are strong possibilities for him, especially since his main competition in the Hip-Hop category, Nicki Minaj, is not nominated this year.

Turning our attention to Best Latin, Anitta stands a good chance of making history. She’s already won Best Latin for her hits “Envolver” and “Funk Rave” in the last two years. This year, she’s nominated twice for “Mil Veces” and “Bellakeo,” featuring Peso Pluma. A win this year would make her the most awarded female artist in this category and tie her with J Balvin for the most wins overall. It would also be her third consecutive win in this category, a feat only Balvin has achieved. Although having two nominations could split her vote, the popularity of “Bellakeo” makes it a strong contender for the win.

The Artist of the Year category, introduced in 2017, has yet to see a repeat winner. This could change in 2024, with three potential candidates: Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift, who have all previously won. Bad Bunny, despite not having as explosive a year as before, remains a significant name in the industry. Ariana Grande has strong chances thanks to her successful album “Eternal Sunshine” and its hit single “We Can’t Be Friends.” However, it’s Taylor Swift who stands out with her noteworthy year, thanks to “The Tortured Poets Department” and the highly-nominated “Fortnight.” Other strong contenders include Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, and Eminem, making this category anyone’s game.

With so many high-profile artists in the running, the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards promise to be an exciting event filled with potential record-breaking moments.
