The family of US hip hop artist Fatman Scoop have paid tribute to him as the “undisputed voice of the club” following his death at the age of 53.

The rapper, also known as Isaac Freeman III, passed away after collapsing on stage during a performance in Connecticut, US, on Friday.

Scoop rose to fame with his number one hit “Be Faithful” in 2003 and later appeared on “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2015.

On Instagram, the Freeman family shared a heartfelt statement: “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

“Fatman Scoop was not just a world-class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle, and a friend,” the statement continued.

“He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage. Fatman Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity.”

“His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

Underneath the post, British singer Sonique expressed her sorrow: “I am so saddened by this news. We have shared many stages together. I know you will be missed by so many people. My prayers go out to his friends and family. RIP.”

Dascha Polanco, known for her role as Dayanara “Daya” Diaz on Netflix’s “Orange Is The New Black,” also paid her respects: “You believed in so many of us. You were and will continue to be the voice of so many memories. I will never forget your encouraging words outside the studio. A friend and inspiration. My heart and prayers go out to your family. Love you.”

Dutch DJ Hardwell, who collaborated with Scoop on tracks like “Don’t Stop The Madness” and “Left Right,” expressed his sadness through emojis. Timbaland, who featured Scoop on the track “Drop,” also paid tribute, writing, “Drop was the song I start off with on tour. Rest easy.”
