Walking Dead’s Roberts & Harner in Monsters: Lyle & Erik Menéndez

In 2022, Netflix introduced audiences to a biographical true crime series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” This September, the streaming giant is set to release the second season titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story.” Former “Walking Dead” actors Dallas Roberts and Jason Butler Harner have been cast in this new addition.

The first season of the series elicited mixed reviews, but its success was undeniable. It detailed the chilling spree of Jeffrey Dahmer, a notorious serial killer, focusing on his crimes, eventual conviction, and death. Achieving 1 billion views within the first 60 hours of its release, the show joined an exclusive club of high-performing series. Given the popularity of the initial installment, it’s hardly surprising that Netflix decided to explore another infamous criminal case.

Murphy and Brennan have chosen to delve into another high-profile case that captivated the nation in the 90s. The tale of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who tragically murdered their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez, shocked the nation. The horrifying incident occurred on August 20, 1989, when the brothers entered their Beverly Hills home and fatally shot their parents.

As the investigation unfolded, the brothers began to spend their family inheritance lavishly, raising suspicions. With no other significant leads, the focus of the investigation shifted towards them. On March 8, 1990, Lyle was arrested, and Erik surrendered to the authorities three days later.

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is set to premiere on Netflix on September 19. The brothers are depicted by Alexander Chavez as Lyle and Cooper Kock as Erik, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny take on the roles of their parents.

Dallas Roberts, known for his role as Milton Mamet in the third season of “The Walking Dead,” will portray Dr. Jerome Oziel, the therapist Erik starts seeing after the murders. Jason Butler Harner, who played Toby Carlson in the 11th season of TWD, assumes the role of Les Zoeller, the lead detective in the Menendez case.

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” will be available on Netflix starting September 19.
