Warner Bros. Discovery Names Shauna Spenley Global CMO of Direct-to-Consumer

Warner Bros. Discovery has appointed Shauna Spenley to spearhead its streaming marketing initiatives.

Spenley will serve as the global Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for direct-to-consumer operations, taking over from Patrizio (Pato) Spagnoletto, who is set to exit WBD later this year. Her responsibilities will include driving marketing strategies, subscriber growth and retention, conducting research, and overseeing other critical areas for WBD’s streaming services, including Max and Discovery+.

Spenley will report directly to JB Perrette, the CEO and president of global streaming and games at WBD.

“It is a privilege to be joining this phenomenal team. I have been a subscriber and fan of Max since its launch. The incredible array of content is unmatched in the industry, including the most prestigious brand in television… HBO,” said Spenley in a statement. “I cannot wait to jump in and get to work with JB, Casey, and the marketing group. I believe we are incredibly positioned to ride the recent momentum of Max and grow it to be a top global streamer.”

Prior to her appointment at WBD, Spenley served as president of entertainment at Riot Games. She also held a Vice President role in marketing and publicity at Netflix, bringing a wealth of experience to her new position.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity WBD has given me and proud of the momentum we built around Max,” said Spagnoletto. “Though this is only the beginning chapter for Max, it is a good transition moment, and I have full faith that Shauna and the incredible team here will succeed in making Max a top entertainment destination around the world.”

Perrette expressed his confidence in Spenley, stating, “We are so fortunate to be able to bring in a talent of Shauna’s caliber. It says a lot about our achievements, our assets, and our team, as well as the opportunity ahead of us, that she can’t wait to join our One WBD Team. I have the utmost confidence in Shauna and this entire team to deliver outstanding results as we move forward together.”
