Was Chappell Roan’s Lollapalooza Set the Biggest Ever?

Chappell Roan has ascended to become the bona fide pop star of Gen Z, and her recent performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago underscored this status.

Thanks to her meteoric rise in 2024, Chappell is now recognized for setting a new benchmark: the largest crowd during a daytime set at the iconic music festival, per CNN.

“Chappell’s performance was the biggest daytime set we’ve ever seen. It was a magical moment added to Lolla’s DNA,” a Lollapalooza spokesperson revealed to CNN.

The exact number of attendees present for Chappell Roan’s set hasn’t been disclosed, but approximately 110,000 festival-goers attended Lollapalooza each day this year, according to the outlet.

Videos and photos of Chappell’s set quickly went viral across social media. The striking images showcased a crowd that seemed to engulf nearly the entire Grant Park.

The official Lollapalooza Twitter/X account even shared a photo captioned, “It’s Chappell’s world and we’re just living in it.”

Sources close to the singer mentioned that her crowd “rivaled many headliners” and is believed to be the festival’s largest crowd of all time, worldwide, as reported by CNN.

Lollapalooza has expanded its reach since 2010, establishing presence in several South American countries like Brazil and Argentina, as well as holding festivals in France, Germany, India, and other parts of Europe and Asia.

This year’s headliners at the main festival in Chicago included major names such as Stray Kids, SZA, Megan Thee Stallion, and Blink-182.

Initially, Chappell was scheduled to perform on a smaller stage. However, due to her surging popularity, she was moved to the main stage, swapping time slots with Kesha.

Earlier this summer, her set at Bonnaroo in Tennessee was also relocated to a bigger stage, following her impressive performances at Coachella in California and Governor’s Ball in New York.

Chappell Roan’s phenomenal rise can be attributed partly to her hit single “Good Luck, Babe!” and her role as an opener on Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts tour last year.

Additionally, her tracks “Hot to Go,” “Femininomenon,” and “Red Wine Supernova” have all gone viral online. Her eye-catching stage costumes, inspired by iconic drag queens, also contribute to her growing fame.
