We Imagined Jason Momoa Without His Beard, So We Made It Happen

There are few men in Hollywood who have a signature look as recognizable as Jason Momoa. It’s hard to imagine him without his long locks, unique fashion sense, and, of course, his facial hair. Since he separated from his ex-wife, Lisa Bonet, in 2020, the “Game of Thrones” star may have changed a bit, but his wavy hair and long beard have stayed the same.

This made us curious about what Momoa might look like with a freshly-shaven face, so we did some photo editing to see what lies beneath his beard.

Although Momoa may avoid shaving his face, he did shave his head back in 2022. He shared a video on Instagram where he held up his cut-off braids while someone buzzed the rest of his hair. The makeover was a commitment to a good cause. In his caption, he encouraged fans to “be better at protecting our land and oceans. We need to cut single-use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas.”

Urging people to do “anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastics in your life,” he described the surprising sensation of wind on the side of his freshly-buzzed head, saying, “Oh man, I’ve never even felt a wind right there.” Based on this, one can imagine how surprising it would be for him to feel the breeze on his chin.

Seeing Jason Momoa without his beard is quite a shock. It makes sense why he seldom shaves. Even though it’s hard to predict exactly how he’d look without his beard, it’s clear that his signature facial hair suits him best. The photoshopped image of Momoa without facial hair gives a bit of a jump scare and doesn’t seem to mesh well with his rugged, laidback style.

Aside from his brief moment of being bald in 2022, Momoa has stayed true to the look that works for him. In 2018, he told The Daily Telegraph, “My wife, [Lisa Bonet], would leave me if I cut my hair, so I just don’t cut my hair … I am not cutting my hair for a while. I will tell you that much.” Despite his split from Bonet, he confirmed in May 2024 that he is dating fellow actor Adria Arjona. Let’s hope that if this edited photo sparks any misguided makeover ideas, Arjona hides his shaving cream.
